SOME UMPIRING RULES
Areas For Umpiring:
When umpiring, you umpire the areas that are shown below. Each umpire controls:
- The sideline s/he is standing on - for throw ins only.
- The goal line to her/his right.
- The half of the court to her/his right.
You will umpire these areas for the full game
Always umpire ONLY in your own area unless the other umpire asks you for help!
First Centre Pass For The Game Or Quarter:
The umpire who controls the half into which the ball is going controls the centre pass.
Other Centre Passes Throughout The Game:
The umpire in whose half the goal was scored controls the next centre pass.
Calling Infringements:
- Blow your whistle.
- Name the infringement and player who infringed.
- Name the penalty eg. Stepping Team X Player V Free Pass Team Y (Stepping Seaforth Centre Free Pass Harbord).
Free Passes Are Awarded For The Following Infringements:
- Stepping
- Held ball
- Over a third
- Untouched centre pass
- Bat and bounce
- Replayed
- Falling on the ball
- Break-toss-up
- Break-centre pass
- Kicking the ball.
Penalty Passes Are Awarded For The Following Infringements:
- Obstruction or contact outside the goal circle.
Penalty Pass Or Shots Are Awarded For The Following Infringements:
- Obstruction or contact in the goal circle.
