PROGRAMME FOR NEW UMPIRES
We hold a number of programmes to support our umpires.
Introduction to Umpiring
This is a hands-on programme especially aimed to support the U12s in their first year of umpiring or for any girls new to the club who have not had much practical umpiring experience.
The programme was formerly called the Club Badge programme and the requirements are set by Manly Warringah Netball Association. Seaforth Netball club actively promotes this programme as it provides an excellent foundation to build confidence and knowledge for umpiring. We encourage all girls in their first year of umpiring or who are new to the club with little umpiring experience to achieve this certificate. The certificate will be presented at the club’s end of season Presentation Day in September.
There are a number of components for girls to complete before they are eligible to receive this award and they are quite achievable for the girls during their first year of umpiring:
- Attendance at either Seaforth’s Club Umpire Theory talk OR if you are unable to attend our session you can attend Manly Warringah’s Club Umpire Theory talk. (Please refer to Manly Warringah Website).
Seaforth’s theory session is a hands-on session which is held the week prior to the Club’s Development Day and is led by a National Badged Umpire. Not only will key rules be explained to the girls, there will also be fun drills to assist them and they will have the opportunity to ask questions.
- Complete an open book Club Umpire Theory Test
- Umpire 2 games during the season
Note: The Club Umpire theory session for 2011 will be held on Sunday 20th February at the Curl Curl Netball courts. Click here for more details.
Development Day – Practical Umpiring Session
The Club holds a Development Day at the beginning of the season. On this day we provide umpiring practice for the U12s. Mentors are assigned to each court to assist the girls with their umpiring.
Note: Development Day for 2011 will be held on Sunday 27th February from 3pm – 5pm.
All U12 players will have a turn at umpiring.
For this day to be successful we will need as many umpiring mentors as possible. Players from U14s or parents who have umpired who are interested in assisting as a mentor should contact the Umpires' Convenor
Mentoring
The Club aims to have a roster of parents to provide mentoring and coaching for our umpires. The demand is highest for our U12 & U13 players and we are always looking for parents who would like to assist in this role. The mentoring role is not difficult and we are able to skill parents to enable them to provide simple tips and assistance for young umpires.
We are also able to assist our senior umpires. The Club has some National C Badge umpires who are happy to umpire with Senior players at their games to provide constructive comment during the game.
Please contact the Umpires' Convenor to discuss some options for your players.
Information Sessions & Clinics
We hold a number of information sessions, usually at the beginning of the season to assist both Managers & Coaches of Nettas, Junior and Senior teams. We also hold umpiring clinics to increase a working knowledge of rules for our U13-15 year players who are keen to improve their umpiring skills & confidence.
We also have a number of resources to assist parents, players and spectators!
